As I mentioned in my prior blog, we're refinancing our house, and to do so means that it will be reappraised. I'd hoped that we'd land one of those appraisers who looks at a bunch of charts and graphs and then guesses at our value. No such luck, we have an appointment for him/her to do a walk through in two days.
In the meantime, we've been busy as beavers damming a creek. First, we cleaned the yard up (mowed, edged, raked, swept). Then we planted flowers in a brick planter on the porch. This is a thinly veiled attempt to de-emphasize the huge crack in the porch floor.
On the inside we hung drywall on the two remaining stud walls. Eventually we'll take the drywall down to finish up some details (installing a medicine cabinet in the bathroom and wiring for our dream HDTV), but for now the living room and bedroom finally have the feel of a fully finished room, rather than the missing fourth wall of a television sitcom set. We even hung drywall from the ceiling, which (I'd like to point out) was really not fun.
Tomorrow we're both taking a day off work in order to clean up the backyard and organize the work room (which currently looks like a post-Apocalyptic woodworking shop).
So far the "Remodel 4 Refi" project has cost us about $300, but if it helps contribute to the overall valuation of our house then it's worth it...we hope. We still have the temp kitchen holding us back. We shall see.
