how replace shower head? : Overview
You have finally saved up enough for that awesome pulsating shower massage unit, but now you are in a quandary. How do you get rid of the old shower head? Replacing a shower head is a pretty straightforward project. All you need is a couple of tools and a bit of elbow grease. Before you know it, you'll be singing away under your new deluxe sprayer, and the best part is, you can say, "I did it myself!"

Step 1

Stretch the rubber band over the old shower head until it sits on the shower pipe. Place it 1 inch above the shower head.

Step 2

Grasp the shower pipe with a pair of channel lock pliers, placing the pliers on the rubber band to prevent scratches while achieving a better grip.

Step 3

Twist the shower head counterclockwise, using your free hand to turn the head while keeping a tight hold of the pipe with the channel locks. The shower head will screw off, exposing the open pipe. Make sure that you do not turn the pipe that connects into the wall, as this will cause a future plumbing leak.

Step 4

Wrap the exposed threads of the water pipe with a 6-inch piece of plumber's tape, pulling the tape taut as you wrap so that the threads are covered.

Step 5

Screw the new shower head on by hand until it is snug, then tighten with the channel locks in the same way that you removed the old head.

Step 6

Test your shower head by turning on the water and spray. If there is a slight drip at the connection, tighten it slowly until the leak has stopped. Remove the rubber band and admire your work.
