Overview
Whether out of necessity, or as a remodel to match your bathroom decor, replacing the faucet is a fast and easy job. You will be saving money by doing it yourself, building sweat equity into your home.
There are many different types of bathroom faucets. So before getting started make sure that the faucet you are installing matches the holes in the sink. If this does not match then you will need a proper compatible faucet, or new sink if you want that specific faucet.
Step 1
Turn off the water to the bathroom sink.
Step 2
Remove the water link connections to the faucet by unscrewing them with your plumber's wrench.
Step 3
Unscrew the bolts on each side of the faucet that is holding it down with your wrench.
Step 4
Unscrew the drain linkage rod from the faucet.
Step 5
Pull up on the faucet to remove it.
Step 6
Clean the sink where the faucet was with a wet rag to remove the old plumber's putty.
Step 7
Make a rope out of plumber's putty about 1/4-inch thick all the way around where the faucet will sit.
Step 8
Drop in the new faucet into the sink holes and bolt it from underneath to tighten it to the sink. Make sure the faucet is centered properly up on top. You may need another person to hold it in place as you tighten it.
Step 9
Apply Teflon tape to the pipe threads on the faucet underneath. Then attach the water lines back onto the faucet by screwing them on with your wrench. Screw back on the drain linkage rod.
Step 10
Turn on the water lines and check for leaks. Clean the excess plumber's putty from around the new faucet with a wet rag.
