replacing sliding glass door : Overview
Removing a sliding glass door may seem somewhat complicated, but it's pretty simple. Whether you need to repair the rollers to your existing slider or replace it with a brand new door, it's merely a matter of a few screws and some slightly heavy lifting. These are instructions for removing the fixed panel and sliding panel of a sliding glass door.

Step 1

Remove the screen door. This is accomplished by grasping the screen by either side of the frame and firmly lifting up, bringing the rollers off the track. This allows you to lift the screen over the track. Set the screen door aside.

Step 2

Move first to the fixed panel side of the sliding door and working from the exterior of the house, locate the two brackets that hold the door in place. The brackets are located on the side of the fixed panel closest to the slider, and may be found at both the top and bottom of the frame.

Step 3

Using your electric drill, remove these brackets and set them aside.

Step 4

Slide the fixed panel door along the track until it's in the center of the frame. Grasp it on the sides and lift the door out of the track, carefully setting it to the side.

Step 5

At the top of the door frame, locate the retaining strip and the interior door casing. Using a crowbar, carefully pry away the retaining strip and then the interior door casing.

Step 6

Remove the sliding door. Lift the door over the bottom track, or tip the panel forward (carefully) and lift it out of the door frame.
