Overview
Wiring indoor lights is a simple and fast process. You can do it in a few hours and save money by not hiring an electrician to do the work. Whether you are adding accent lighting to the dim areas of your home or changing your fixture to match your decor, you will be happy knowing that you did it yourself.
Step 1
Turn off the main electricity.
Step 2
Attach the electrical wire to your light, matching the wire color that is labeled on the fixture. Run the wire from the light to the switch. Cut to length.
Step 3
Wire in the switch only with the black wire.
Step 4
Run wire from the switch to either your fuse box (if you have a dedicated circuit) or the nearest outlet. Cut to length. Make sure the amps on the circuit match the amps of your switch and wire.
To wire into the outlet, remove the faceplate and unscrew the outlet. Next, attach the wires to the side screws of the outlet, matching the wire color that is labeled on the switch.
Step 5
Go back to the switch and cap the two white wires together.
Step 6
Screw the switch back into the wall and the outlet. Turn the electricity back on and test.
