A homeowner can choose from many different designs for kitchen tile countertops. Whatever colors, patterns, or textures you're looking for, you can get what you want, sometimes even at your local hardware store. So go ahead and dream; that custom look you want is out there.
Types
Choose from ceramic, porcelain, stone, granite, metal, and quartz tiles. The tile you choose will depend on your overall design idea, where you are placing the tiles, and how tough you want your countertop to be. For instance, backsplash tiles don't have to be as strong as countertop tiles, because they don't take as much abuse. Certain tiles don't hold up under heat, so care has to be taken when placing a hot pot on them.
Colors
Almost every color imaginable is available. It's even possible to have custom colors or images printed onto tiles. You might want your backsplash to be colorful so that it can be the focal point of the kitchen. In that case, your countertop tile should probably be in a color that will complement, but not overpower, your backsplash.
Patterns
Different patterns are available by mixing different colors or different types of tiles on your countertop. The patterns can range from a simple grid or brick pattern, to a checkerboard or random pattern, just by arranging the tiles in a different design. Choose a pattern that will complement your overall kitchen design.
