Overview

undermount kitchen sink installation : Overview :
Undermount sinks give you nice clean lines across your countertop. They are by far the easiest way to keep your countertop clean. They come in several configurations, styles and materials to accent any type of décor. The installation is not difficult although it will take more than a day if you want the job done right. If you want your sink to last and be leak free, then take your time and follow all the manufacturer's directions.

Step 1

Cut the opening in your countertop. If you have a granite or stone countertop have the opening done by a professional. Otherwise, use the template that came with your sink to draw the opening onto the countertop. Start with a drill or a hole saw and then use a jig saw to cut the rest of the opening out.

Step 2

Clean the underside of the countertop and the top of the sink well. If the countertop is granite or stone, you should go over the underside with a small wire brush and then clean with denatured alcohol. If it's anything else, go over it and the top of the sink with the denatured alcohol only.

Step 3

Place the sink under the counter and mark for the mounting clamps. Remove the sink. Place a 2-by-4 board across the top of the width of the opening for the sink.

Step 4

Put a continuous bead of silicone caulk around the lip of the sink and press it up under the opening. Bar clamp the sink in position by placing the clamp on the 2 by 4 and the other through the drain hole of the sink. Check to make sure the sink is in the correct position and tighten the clamps.

Step 5

Mix the two-part epoxy and apply it to the small bolt posts that are next to the sink lip. Allow the epoxy to set, usually about 10 minutes. After the epoxy sets, install the rest of the hardware that clamps the sink to the posts. Allow the sink assembly to sit overnight before unclamping the bar clamps and hooking up the drain.
